Sunlight, One Wing Road was the first collage I made in this manner – using magazine scraps over a foundational drawing. I found making collages gave me less control over the resulting image and allowed strange / involuntary things to happen with scale, proportion, and perspective in the spaces I was creating, which I appreciated.
I also liked the way an ordinary magazine could be such a rich and abundant source of color and pattern. One magazine could ‘feed’ my collages for months. I also enjoyed being a hunter for interesting color through the often-mundane ads and commercialized images in fashion magazines. I saw it as an opportunity to give them another life – to become part of something different.
